Breakwaters and coastal protection works

At Corporativo Costa Afuera (COCOA) we build and repair breakwaters, groynes and coastal protection works from our base in Tuxpan, Veracruz, on the Gulf of Mexico.

Our track record includes the Port of Tuxpan breakwaters for APITUX and the breakwaters and groynes of the Tuxpan power plant intake for CFE. We place rock and concrete units with our own floating equipment and cranes.

Breakwater construction

Extension of port breakwaters with rock and concrete armour, such as the Tuxpan North breakwater.

Groynes

Construction and repair of groynes protecting cooling water intakes, access channels and the shoreline.

Rock armour

Rock supply and placement by barge and crane; 16,000 t of basalt rock went into the North breakwater.

Concrete armour units

Placement of concrete armour units, such as the 200 Core-Locs of 20.52 t on the North breakwater.

Slope protection

We quote slope protection works with the same marine and land equipment we use on breakwaters.

Breakwater beacons

Design, fabrication and installation of steel beacons on the Tuxpan breakwaters.

Frequently asked questions

Which breakwaters has COCOA built?

We extended the Port of Tuxpan North breakwater in its third phase (2005) and its fourth phase (2006) for APITUX, and repaired the breakwaters and groynes of the C.T.P.A.L.M. intake works.

Do you work with rock armour and concrete units?

Yes. The North breakwater received 16,000 tonnes of basalt rock and 200 Core-Loc units of 20.52 tonnes each.

Do you build groynes?

Yes. We have repaired the breakwaters and groynes protecting a power plant intake in Tuxpan, Veracruz.

Do you do slope protection?

Yes. Slope protection is one of the jobs clients ask us to quote. Send us the design for review.

What equipment do you use to place the rock?

Our own barges with cranes, P&H cranes and self-elevating platforms, depending on site access and water depth.
